A Taste of Italy

by an unknown reviewer

Davio's, known for its "peasant Italian" cuisine, opened in Beechview in October 1991 and has been given a 3-1/2 star rating by the Pittsburgh Press and has been nominated one of America's top 100 restuarents by the American Association of Restaurant Science. David Ayn, or Davio, the owner and chef says that the cooking is simple and friendly. He likes bright intense colors and well-seasoned foods with garlic, basil and oregano. Along with good food at good prices, Davio feels that presentation, pleasant surroundings and charming service are all keys to a successful business. He also credits his staff as a part of his success. "People say that without customers you can succeed, but without my employees, I couldn't succeed. I get such a thrill when I see an 18-year-old making a dollar to save in the bank."

Told he would never do a dime of business in Beechview, Davio and Beechview residents have proved everyone wrong.
